Retirement anxiety is a generalized feeling of apprehension or worry regarding the uncertain, unpredictable, and potentially disruptive consequences of impending retirement. Such an anxious response would be expected to generally reflect expectations of potential threat, to be accompanied by disruptive emotional states, and to interfere with coping and adaptive behavior. In this study, retirement anxiety is the social components of retirement anxiety that addressed a wide span of social relationships, community involvement and social isolation.The central of objectives of this research is to design a Retirement Anxiety Measure in the background of Chinese. Furthermore, Research examines the contents as follows: First, how demographic variables, loneliness, job involvement affect retirement intention are discussed. Second, how demographic variables, loneliness, general self-efficacy, job involvement, and retirement intention affect retirement anxiety are also discussed.The process of this research was divided into 3 stages: First, items were collected after translating the foreign scales and open interview to get the original measure. Second, after pretest, a study was implemented, and by using the exploratory factor analysis, a five-components construct of retirement anxiety was firmed. Third, the formal questionnaire including four scales: retirement anxiety scale, UCLA scale, general self-efficacy and work involvement, were tested.There were several conclusions:1. The retirement anxiety scale has good reliability and validity after its amendment.2. The results suggested the high loneliness can predict high retirement anxiety significantly; Years before retirement, general self-efficacy, and retirement intention can predict retirement anxiety negatively.3. Loneliness, general self-efficacy, retirement intention, job involvement have significant difference on certain components of retirement anxiety. On the component "lost friendship" of retirement anxiety, men reported higher level of anxiety than women and administrants reported higher level of anxiety than teachers.4. Years before retirement can predict retirement intention positively. The teachers of middle school have higher retirement intention than that of the teachers of college. The teachers who have chance of being engaged after retirement reported lower retirement intention.
