Exemplary Case Study Of School-based Research On Teaching

The curriculum reform of basic education and the practice of new curriculum in senior school require new teaching theory and teaching methods. The school-based research on teaching is an effective learning way to meet the requirements of the new curriculum reform. The school-based research on teaching is important on the theory and practice of achieving the goal of the curriculum reform, increasing the teaching quality, promoting the professional development of teachers, improving the ability of curriculum establishment and school management.The concept, characteristics, basic elements, general procedure and significance of school-based research on teaching was reviewed in this thesis. On the basis of documental analysis, we selected to research the classroom teaching on the course of biology in senior school as an example for the school based reseach. We organized a research group in Hankou Railway Senior School. The members were made up of the teachers for biology in this school.The research plan with three successive phases, including theory learning, performing and introspection, was made first. On the teaching research of a biology class in senior school, the procedure of school-based reseach on classroom teaching for the course of biology was described.The results demonstrated that the school-based research on classroom teaching was warmly welome by the teachers in the senior school. The school-based research on classroom teaching had to proceed back and forth. The process could be divided five phases, such as preparation for lessons, try of teaching, discussion, teaching again and summary after introspection. Since the concepts of teaching determine the way and thoughts for finding solutions of problems, critera of evaluating the classroom teaching on the basis of the school-based research was established.
