Occupation choice is a crucial decision made by individualsunder the influence of subjective and objective factors.Whether an individual makes a good or bad choice has a directaffect on the match degree between the individual andoccupation, on the exert of a person's capability and the jobperformance of the organization. The objective factors are hardto be controlled, but the subjective factors can, in certaindegree, be controlled by recognizing individual's psychicalactivity and thus improve the rationality of the choice.Since 1909, scholars and researchers carried out the studyon the subjective psychical factors influencing occupation ofan individual through all kinds of means. Occupational interest,vocational values and career decision-making self-efficacy(abbreviated as CDMSE) are the major factors concerned bypsychologists and occupational-guide experts. Based on theprevious studies, the paper, according to social cognitivecareer theory, focuses on CDMSE, occupational interest andvocational values have affect on the occupational choice of thehigher vocational colleges. The paper also explores the mentalinfluential factors in the higher vocational college students' choice of occupations, and finds out rational and pragmaticsolutions for directing occupational choices of the highervocational colleges.The author, referring to the research by CDMSE designed byLong, Self-Directed search of Holland and vocational valuesQuestionnaire of Ling, considering the present situation ofstudent's employment in higher vocational colleges. The authormeasures 950 students. Applying with Multivariate andCorrelation analysis Regression we draw the followingconclusions by SPSS 10.0 for Windows:1. The interest type of higher vocational colleges malestudents is social-enterprising-realistic, female students issocial-enterprising-conventional. Higher vocational collegestudents' occupational interests show statisticallysignificant differences in gender. Male students are more aptto Realistic, Investigative and Enterprising Type, and femalestudents are more apt to Artistic Type.2. Significant differences of higher vocational collegestudents' occupational interests are found in specialties.Students special in Science Course are apt to Realistic andInvestigative Type.3. Higher vocational college students rank the vocational values in a sequence of self-development, health care andreputation. Significant differences of higher vocationalcollege students' vocational values are found in gender. Malestudents stress much more about reputation and social status.4. The significant differences in higher vocationalcollege students' career decision-making self-efficacy arefound the CDMSE of male students is higher than that of femaleones.5. The occupational interests, vocational values and CDMSEin higher vocational college students are related to theirbackground. The occupational interests and vocational valuesand CDMSE are closely related to each other.6. Many factors that influence the higher vocationalcollege students in their choice of occupations, individualplays the important role. Among the outside influence, family,society and school have a combined effect.
