Poetry teaching is the soul of China's traditional culture, and it plays an important role in cultivating temperament, molding soul, casting national spirit and modeling perfect personality through the inheritance of the excellence poem. Chinese language teaching should pay more attention to the development of poetry teaching.This thesis first explains the necessity of new poetry teaching under the new curriculum principles and the importance of inheriting and developing for new poetry teaching. On this basis, a survey is made to investigate the new poetry teaching in senior middle school, which reveals several problems in learning, instruction and teaching material planning. Thus, the necessity of teaching strategy reforming is proposed.To develop students' enthusiasm for learning and achieving the teaching value of new poetry course, the key point is to optimize the teaching strategy. This thesis defines that the guideline for new poetry teaching courses should be the New Curriculum standards; it should meet the requirement of promoting the aesthetic culture, creative thinking and humanistic spirit. Therefore, the students could feel the poetic beauty by new poetry teaching. During the teaching process, it would be better to focus on reading, deliberating the sentence, feeling the poetic beauty, carrying on imagination and associating, realizing the poetry; use the comparison in order to read deeply; finally, savor the life, endue the poetics and form the poetical sentiment. The new poetry teaching would cultivate the students to pursue of truth, goodness and beauty, and motivate their passion and creation eventually.
