National reading attracts more and more attention in the current world,and it also enters a new national strategic height in our country.The new curriculum standard emphasizes that attention should be paid to cultivating students’ extensive interest in reading,and to increasing the amount of reading.Primary school students are in an important period.However,in real life,there are many problems in extracurricular reading of senior primary school students,so the study of extracurricular reading of senior primary school students is important.First of all,through literature review,this study clarifies the core concepts of reading,extracurricular reading and reading ability,and finds out the current situation of extracurricular reading of senior primary school students.Secondly,senior students,parents,teachers and school administrators of primary schools A and B in G City were investigated through a questionnaire survey and interview method.The current problems were pointed out from the five dimensions of primary students’ interest and habits in extracurricular reading,ideas and methods,media and resources,as well as content and planning.Then the study analyzes the problem from five aspects: our traditional education system,school management,teacher guidance,parents’ resources and the pupils themselves.Finally,this study will try to give solutions through the theory of the cognitive development process,constructivist learning and knowledge integration.The innovation of this article lies in the research perspective,specifically the innovation of national reading.The paper investigates the situation of extracurricular reading,which is of great practical significance for improving their reading literacy.In conclusion,this study aims to provide valuable insights for policy makers,education administrators,teachers,parents and students,to further improve extracurricular reading among senior primary school students and contribute to the long-term plan of building a literary China by 2035.
