The activity course is a regular course drawn up and issued to the full-time primary and junior middle schools all across the country, by the state educational administrative department, as part of compulsory education. As a new-type curriculum, it should be made full use of based on its characteristics and advantages to satisfy the requirements of the state compulsory education. With all students educated in an all-round way, it works to fully carry out the educational policies, to achieve the training targets in primary and junior middle schools and to promote students' harmonious development in individuality and initiative. Moreover, it enhances students' adaptation to the modern world and helps to lay a solid foundation for their future life and social service. And with this course, students will possess the basic qualities as a citizen. This paper aims to demonstrate its intention by introducing its origin and development and the relations between activity course and other subjects. The differences between its various types and extracurricular activities are included in the paper as well. Besides, this paper proves the necessity for the course from different angles like the need for the course in the modern world, students' distinguishing learning features of the age and the demand for future talents. This paper also demonstrates the necessity for the course by analyzing the problems faced at present and its position among other school subjects. At the end of the paper, some related principles, various activity types in history class, its basic features, evaluation principles and methods are described based on the previous demonstration.
