Research On Academic Power Of China's University

Power and academic power of university is the most significant research task in recent years. Investigating the academic power of university organization becomes intrinsic demand of deepening the reformation of inner management system in university. In this paper, the author attempts to redefine the conception of academic power of university on the basis of summing up previous research achievements. That is to say, extensive academic power is generally referred to all the power towards inner academic function and academic resource management in the university. It is acceptable for the subject, which is either interior staff or exterior official, academic pursuer or administrative staff of university as long as the research object is academic activity and resource. And on the basis of such cognition, the paper has made comprehensively deep research upon academic power of modality, structure and development from the perspective of wide academic power and university scope. The purpose of the thesis is to illustrate relatively complete research achievements through systematic analysis and discussion and provide reforming measures to adjust Chinese academic power.The dissertation is consisted of five parts. The first part mainly discusses background and research status of this paper, manifesting the research perspective and method. The second part mainly overviews modality, structure, Chinese and western development of academic power and puts forward the ideal academic power requirement. The third part mainly analyzes several international principal modes of the academic power, introduces European continent mode, American mode and British mode respectively and tries to discover their common rales in order to bring forward some good advice for improving academic power in our university. The fourth part mainly analyzes Chinese academic power. Firstly, it analyzes three academic modes in Chinese university since late Qing and Ming Dynasty. Then it describes the current situation of Chinese academic power. Finally, it points out main problems of academic power that lies in Chinese university: academic power is replaced and exerted by administrative power; power is centralized upwards; academic power is extremely limited in medium and lower level; professors' authority is weakening, academic organization is not perfect. The fifth part provides the following suggestive measures for optimizing Chinese academic power: consummating the law gist of academic power, setting up definite coordinate and restrictive mechanism, strengthening the decision-making effect of professors' committee in academic power, self-ruling academic power in lower level and building up and perfecting academic organization.
