The issue of in 2002 proposed a new target for PE of high schools; it marks the new stage of curriculum reform of high school PE. It is our goal to foster talents with all-around quality to meet the needs of 21st century, and this has posed a challenge for PE teachers to design teaching methods that concentrates more on interests instead of athletics. PE teachers must be aware of this change and keep rethinking profoundly on the practices of PE and PE phenomenon, meanwhile, through the effective way of continuing education, they can improving and perfecting their education ability and standard to fit in the needs of curriculum reformation. Especially here in Jiangsu, which has been strong in economic development, cultural heritage and education, how to fulfill the requirements of is an urgent need.In order to have a complete understanding of existing circumstance of Jiangsu high school PE teachers continuing education, the paper makes investigation of many aspects such as school leaders, PE department leaders and PE teachers' understanding of continuing education, purpose of PE teachers' participation in continuing education, curriculum, course contents, method of teaching, evaluation and assessments of continuing education, ways and forms of continuing education and factors that influences PE teachers continuing education. The paper also adopts many method of research such as philology approach, experts interviewing approach, questionnaire approach, mathematical statistics and analysis. Compare to the new requirement of , the paper discovered important factors that lay restraints on PE teachers participating continuing education, such as lack of information resource of continuing education, curriculum and course contents are not in line with practices, lack of variety of teaching method, irrational of assessment, short of funds, heavy working loads, poor foreign language proficiency and so on. The paper expressed systematic and effective solutions in detail directed to the above problems: more information of continuing education, establishment of concepts of life-long learning and ability standard, enhance the construction of continuing education system, set up of reasonable supervise, assessment, evaluation and inspiration system, more investment on continuing education, applying of networking technology and multimedia assisted teaching, sharing of teaching information database, promote of long-distance teaching, reasonable teaching contents and so on. All these solutions are expected to provide theoretical and practical reference to high school PE teachers and promote the development of high school PE and PE reform.
