According to Lvshuxiang,Chinese is "Language and Characters".That is, spoken language and written language. The basic quality of Chinese is instrumental. Based on it, Lvshuxiang forms a comparatively-systematic ideology of Chinese education. Lvshuxiang's ideology of Chinese education is taking place and developing against a background of the modern ideology of Chinese education. Lvshuxiang puts emphasis on the fact that Chinese is instrumental (but not mechanically instrumental) and advocates that Chinese should return to the noumenon of language and the main task of Chinese teaching is to develop the students' Chinese ability. Lvshuxiang's ideology of Chinese education covers all the aspects of Chinese teaching aims, teaching principals, Chinese teaching materials and teaching methods and so on. So it exerts important influence on the Chinese teaching practice, including the teaching of alphabet and literacy, spoken language, grammar, classical style of writing, writing and reading. Of course, Lvshuxiang's ideas about Chinese education are still not perfect. For example, he makes no strict distinction between the two concepts of "Chinese"and "language".Besides, his discussion about the "language sense" is inadequate, which is hard to deal with in the teaching practice.
