"Self-management of head teachers" refers to the management of head teachers' self-development. Through the self-management, head teachers have the possession of decision-making power regarding their work, have the ability of self-study, self-evaluation and self-planning for their personal-tailored development and therefore fulfilling the goal of self-growth for head teachers.The objects of this thesis are head teachers who are working at 10 nine-year compulsory education schools in S District, Shanghai, by taking D School as an example, the new way—self-management of head teachers' growth have been put forward through the investigation and analysis of head teachers and their management situation. Through the self-management, head teachers are encouraged to find their own space for the development and to achieve four "transition": from "passive enforcement" to "independent planning", from "single-handed work" to "mutual cooperation", from "working" to "cultivating", from "experience" to "research", so as to experience growth, success and happiness; and also head teachers are encouraged to become the active planners of their own growth, the active participants in school's moral education, which enhance the cohesion and the attraction of the head teachers, therefore promote the teaching of the school smoothly.This thesis is composed of the introduction, three chapters of the main body and remarks. The introduction states the origin of this topic, the significance of the study, the definition of basic concepts, the scale and objectives of this study, the method of this research, as well as the current situation of the study domestically and abroad.Chapter one talks about the questionnaires designed by two aspects: the current situation of the head teachers' growth and the current schools' management towards to the head teachers, and conduct some investigations and interviews. Self-management of head teachers has been brought forward according to the results of this analysis which reveal the present situation of head teachers' growth, and the existing shortcomings, inefficiencies, errors and other issues exist in the schools' management.Chapter Two mainly discusses the theory basis, the objectives, conditions on the self-management of head teachers, as well as the analysis about the contents and methods for carrying out of the head teachers' self-management from the head teachers' own level, the team level and the school level.Chapter Three is about the relative insurances of self-management. It mainly involves the rules and regulations of the head teachers' self-management, such as the responsibilities of organizations at different levels and personal responsibility, the reward and punishment for the head teachers' work. This chapter also focuses on the discussion about the evaluation and insurances of the head teachers' self-management. The contents of evaluation include fundamental projects, features projects and progress projects. The ways of evaluation include self-evaluation, grade groups' evaluation, students and student-parents' and school's evaluation. The forms of stimulation after evaluation include fund stimulation, achievement stimulation and publicity stimulation, etc.The end of this thesis attaches the great importance to the fact that self-management embodies the thinking of the people and the subject awareness. Through self-management, head teachers are granted to the "freedom" and eventually realize the "outstanding performance".
