An Empirical Study On The Occupational Values Of Higher Vocational College And Higher Specialty College Students In Guangdong Province

The youth is the key power of the modernization of our country.Among them, college students are the most important group,so their occupational value orientation will greatly influence the future of our country.In this thesis,we aim to conduct a research on the students' occupational value in higher vocational colleges and higher specialty colleges(hereafter referred to as HVC & HSC) to help them to find problems,and to help them to form the correct conception on occupational values and understand themselves correctly so as to choose a suitable occupation,adapt themselves positively to the society and obtain good living and developing space.Thus,their life's value can be achieved by contributing their efforts to the prosperity of their country.Meanwhile,the results of this study will also provide suggestions and support to the career instruction and administration in HVC & HSC.The first step of the research was to study the definition of value,its characteristic and influencing factors,and followed with an analysis of the connotation and characteristic of occupational values.With the theoretic analysis and the reference of Jin Sheng Hua's occupational values model raised in 2005,we made the preliminary test questionnaires.After the test and the factors analysis,we formed the formal test questionnaires suitable to HVC & HSC students with the following five factors:the pursuit of social status,self-fulfillment,working environment,development space, decency and comfort of their work.The findings of the final formal test indicate that:the family income of the HVC & HSC students and their parents' occupations greatly influence the students' choice of occupation.In general,HVC & HSC students care respectively about their development space,working environment,self-fulfillment,decency and comfort of their work,and the pursuit of social status,which means they pay more attention to mateiral and financial interest,and regard occupation as main method of personal survival,so their purpose occupational values are practical;in the method occupational values,HVC & HSC students desire to realize their own values in their work,generally pay attention to their self-development and long for the acknowledgement of their value in the society.The results of the both latitudes show that HVC & HSC students lack long career design and the sense of combining their personal development with the interest of the society and the prosperity of our country. Based on the above analysis,we raised the strategies and methods to cultivate the occupational values of HVC & HSC students.
