By scientific methods such as literature,statistics,questionnaire,comparative analysis,we have tested the physical and mental health and extra-curricular physical activities of 588 obese college students in Grade 2007 from four colleges in Suzhou.We find that obesity brings about negative impact to the college students.The physical health level of obese college students is lower than normal ones.The males score 58.50 and the females score 60.49.48.24%of males and 43.55%females have not passed the test.Compared with the average level,the indices of height,weight and vital capacity of obese college students of Suzhou are higher.But,the other indices of the obese ones are lower.44.56%of the obese college students have low-grade psychological problems.At the same time,9.69%of them have medium psychological problems.Compared with the normal ones,the obese students suffer more mental illness,such as,somatization, compulsion,suspense,antagonize,crankiness.The average score of nine semiotic indices of obese students is lower than normal ones.The mental health of obese students have these features that males are better than females,students from cities are better than the ones from rural area and students of better physical healthy are better than others.About 80%of the obese students have interests in the extra-curricular physical activities.Males have more interests than females.The training duration and frequency of obese students is not enough because the lack of time and fields.So,we come to the conclusion that the selection of physical tests,ignorance of the disadvantage of obesity and lack of extra-curricular physical activities are the main factors that effect the physical and mental health of obese college students in Suzhou area.
