In June 2001,The State Council made the decision about the reform and development of the basic education,which further clarify the mission of establishing the basic educational system satisfying the requirements of quality-oriented education. In the same year,The Ministry of Education issued P.E.(and health) curriculum standard of compulsory education.In 2003,the P.E.and health curriculum standard of high school was issued.These decisions clearly show the new idea and philosophy of Physical Education will become the themes of the reform and development of the P.E. curriculum in the basic education in our country.The standard stipulates that students must gain 1 credit at least in track-and-field events of the sports skill.This stipulation was based on the character and value of the track-and-field events.Henan Province lies in the middle or lower reaches of the Yellow River,In the interior of our country,which is a populous province and an educational province.At present,there are 185 provincial exemplary senior high schools in Henan Province, providing a large batch of outstanding senior high school graduates for the university inside and outside the province.The level of the athletic teaching directly influence the students' health,their study and work in the future.The track-and-field events are promoted universally,many teachers majoring in athletics have strong capacity in athletic teaching,and have a full realization of the curriculum reform,which are all the advantage of the athletic teaching in the exemplary senior high school in our province. However,some factors,for example,the disagreement between some leaders and P.E. teachers,the defect of some teachers' skill,the weak self-control of the students,have influenced and restricted the process of the reform of the athletic teaching.The thesis takes the current situation of atheletic teaching in some exemplary senior high schools in Henan Province as the study subject on the basis of the exsiting documents,applying the mathods of questionaire,mathematics statistics,and reaches these conclusions as follows:Firstly,in the exemplary senior high school in Henan,P.E.teachers basically satisfy the teaching demand,and the athletic teachers have a rational proportion.But women P.E.teachers are less than one quarter of the total,which is bad to the high school students at the age of puberty.Secondly,the track field and sports equipment restrict the athletic teaching.The restoration and preservation of the track field and the sports equipment should command the attention of the authorities concerned.Thirdly,the students just have a superficial understanding of the track-and-field events,in which they are not interested.Fourthly,the emphasis of the athletic teaching is transferred from skill ability mainly relying on competitive sports to physical ability that attaches importance to health improvement and leaming interest.Fifthly,in the choice of the teaching methods,some teachers have a few problems to some extent,such as,rigid and tedious teaching method,lack of originality, and being not accustomed to the new curriculum standard.Currently the athletic teaching still uses traditional teaching methods in some exemplary senior high schools in Henan,which partially emphasize the learning of skill and technique,restrict teachers' mode of thinking,make the classroom teaching tedious and boring,therefore restricting the students' initiative and creativity,and nonconformity to the new curriculum standard.Finally,the importance taken by the authorities also directly influence the quality of the P.E.teaching.At present,there are still some exemplary senior high schools where no special leader takes charge of the P.E.teaching.
