Ever since it was firstly proposed in the 1970s, job burnout has attracted the attention of researchers. There is a high incidence of job burnout among teachers, and it has impacted severely their efficiency and quality at work. Besides its negative influence upon the healthy development, both physical and mental, of teachers, it has interfered greatly with the growth of students as well. Consequently, it is of great significance to probe into job burnout among college teachers, aiming at studying the formative factors of job burnout and proposing precautions and measures to ease it.Based on the data analysis of job burnout facts among PE teachers in colleges in Shanghai, which has been collected from the questionnaires done in seven colleges, this paper investigated into the status quo and the influencing factors of job burnout among PE teachers at colleges, aiming at proposing ways to take precautions against and help relieve job burnout of college PE teachers.As was revealed in the questionnaires, the problem of job burnout exists, in varying degrees, in college PE teachers in Shanghai, mainly in the two dimensions of emotion exhaustion and ineffectiveness as is contrasted in a medium level of depersonalization. Different background factors, for example, gender, age, of school age, professional ranks and titles, workload, income and education background are influencing each of the dimensions of job burnout of college PE teachers, especially so with emotion exhaustion and ineffectiveness. The formative factors of job burnout among them include social support, organization and job expectation.Through analysis of survey, the author presented precautions against and measures to relieve job burnout of college PE teachers by increasing public awareness, transforming management model of colleges, and self adjustment of teachers themselves.
