In 21st century, innovation is cried for and encouraged. Critical thinking is necessary qualities of innovative thinking. And critical thinking skills are the prerequisites and basis of innovation ability. Only with critical thinking especially critical spirit can people think profoundly, find questions, and then discover and invent new things. Otherwise innovation will be bosh. We must pay great attention to the university students' cultivation of critical thinking .Only in this way can we cultivate innovative talents, which is one of the key targets of quality education in China.In the 1950s, the western countries represented by the U.K. and U.S.A raised the trend of "critical thinking". This conception was introduced into China in the end of 1980s.Reserchers begun to study its meaning and related theories. It is agreed that the critical thinking plays an important role in the development of innovation ability. At present, the research of critical thinking is still under the development. Researchers have not put out systematic and authoritative theory. In view of this, this paper attempts to make further systematic study of connotation and cultivation of critical thinking.Based on the current situation that our university students are lack of critical thinking, this paper adopts the method of critique inherit to try to summarize the theory of critical thinking that is suitable to China's education and then combine it with the specific practice of our country's higher education to explore an effective way to cultivate innovative talents in universities with the reference to the successful experience of critical thinking training in U.S.A.. This paper will draw to the conclusion that establishing scientific evaluation method as the guidance; setting up critical thinking curriculums and general courses as the basis ; using critical thinking teaching method as the emphases and main contents. In addition, the knowledge structure optimization and ability levels improvement of teachers and the construction of critical thinking environment are absolutely necessarily principal elements. This paper is aimed to provide valuable theories and recommendations for the reform of the currently higher education in our country by exploring paths that agree with the realistic of higher education in China.
