In recent years, China has been promoting "quality education" and stressed that knowledge and skills, at the same time paying more attention to improve the culture quality of students. The "General Education" as a practical model of quality education is also among the various universities engaged in constant reform and innovation. American University's general education curriculum, is often "a major change five years, three years a small change", to date has matured, there are many good and worth learning. The general education curriculum in China since late start, still in the exploratory stage, we are affirming our achievements should be noted deficiencies and increase the general curriculum reform.This thesis carried out a systematic comparison of the general education curriculum reform in the universities of China and the United States by applying the methods of comparison, document analysis, history study and case analysis method. The author first defines the general education and its curriculum, and related concepts and a distinction between general education; and then select the two countries in the general education curriculum reform more successful analysis of case studies, recognizing that behind its success has its specific historical background and distinctive features of the times; further analysis the similarities and differences of the two universities' general education curriculum in educational philosophy, curriculum building, teaching management and so on; in-depth thinking basis, by comparing that our country's universities major problems facing the general education curriculum. And thus combined with the actual situation in our country's colleges and universities, and then put forward corresponding measures and suggestions, looking forward to making beneficial inspiration to the general education curriculum reform in our country's universities and to promote the development of China's General Education towards a new level.
