Based on the introduction of some disadvantages of the development of higher vocational colleges, such as the vagueness of the professional characteristics, the laciness of the professional features, and the shortage of the major distinctions, this paper analysis the influence caused by these disadvantages, and suggest that the healthy development of higher vocational colleges should base on the construction of professional characteristics, what's more, the colleges should have the unique features like developing new professional concepts, constructing dual-qualification teachers, frosting talents with high qualities, skill trainings combing learning with working, and professional service for the companies so as to improve the competitive power and the competitive advantage of the major to construct a distinctive professional features and realize the sustainable development of the higher vocational colleges. This paper takes the case of the professional feature construction of Hunan Technical College of Communications & Engineering as an example, giving suggestions on how to develop higher vocational colleges both in theory and practice from five aspects:the professional concept focus on novelty to form the strategic planning features; the training of the teachers focus on strict requirement to establish the teachers'distinguishing qualities; the talent training focus on stability, to form the students distinguishing qualities; the practical training focus on proficient to strengthen the professional features; the close cooperation of the colleges and companies to show the service features.From the pedagogical angle, starting with the necessity of the development of higher vocational education major professional features both home and abroad, this paper research the common problems of the development and the different emphasis points of the undergraduate education and higher vocational education in order to prove that the professional features plays the most important role in developing. Then, this paper proposed some strategies for the construction of professional features, and conclude the practice in constructing professional features of the college and the expect of it. At last, this paper conclude that the professional features and the most important for the development of the higher vocational colleges.
