A Design And Development Courseware Platform For Basic Geographic Education Based On Internet And GIS

New Geographic information age has sneaked up on, it has the following features compared with traditional geographic information age which based on electronic map:clients have been expanded to all public users who are not only the users but also the provider; it provides services on the basis of the demanding; the application of geospatial information has been developed from data-driven to SOA.New geographic information age has brought forward forceful challenge to geography education and demands it to makes a contribution to train innovative personnel who can meet the need of development in the 21 st century. As the starting of the education, basic education should shoulder the responsibility. With the debut of new Geography-Curriculum Standard and the promotion of the new teaching material which based on the new Geography-Curriculum Standard, basic geography education has been brought about unlimited opportunities for the development.The new Geography-Curriculum Standard issued by the Ministry of Education historically expanded GIS education from advanced education to senior school. As the foundation and Core of modern science and technology, GIS technology is required to apply to the basic geography education by modern information society. It adapts to the challenges of the 21st century and could be an essential breakthrough in the current basic geography teaching reform and development. GIS will realize the value of geographic education.With the growing popularity of Internet, the study of the basic geography education which based on Internet is gradually increased. However, Internet is more generally used as a tool such as instruction medium. If Internet could be used as a teaching environment which is equaled to the traditional classroom teaching and builds a complete Web-based teaching system, it will be better adapted to the new era of development of geographic information.In this context, the author proposes the research and development courseware platform for basic geographic education based on Internet and GIS. The platform combines geography teaching with the ability to utilize network and GIS which also links geography teaching to the promotion of independent and inquiry learning, it also effectively integrates geography teaching with inspiring imagination and good summary induction ability of students. In a word, the platform better reflects the basic characteristics of the times and innovation in education.The thesis is composed of six chapters. Chapter one is introduction, which introduces the background and important significance, relative research and application status both at home and abroad, brings forward problems exists in basic geographic education using Internet and GIS and the main contents of the thesis. Chapter two analyzes the important roles of GIS and Internet in basis geography education from four aspects:GIS as the content for geography teaching; GIS as a means of teaching geography; GIS as ability means for students and the combination of GIS and the Internet. Chapter three is theoretical foundation, that is the Constructivism and Integrableware theory.Chapter four designs the overall structure on the principles of universality and practical. Chapter five is achieving the platform by taking population for example. Chapter six is conclusion and prospect, which summarizes the research content and works that has been done and puts forward the further research in the future.The main work and the innovations of this thesis include:1 Proposing the new contents of the basis geography teaching in the information age, demonstrating the necessity and feasibility to build the courseware platform for basic geographic education based on Internet and GIS.2 Defining the functions of Internet and GIS for basis geography teaching, including accessing basic teaching resources, being used for teaching, students operation and innovation culture.3 Proposing the overall structure,functional design and the software development technology about the platform.4 Demonstrating the feasibility of the platform by taking population for example.
