Geographic information system which contains computer technology, surveying and mapping, remote sensing, earth science, begins in the1960s to the present development. It has been widely applied in social life and production because of its convenient and fast storage, analysis and processing of the geographical space related data. Along with the development of modern education technology, the cultivation of the talent who has the basic knowledge and skills of geographic information system become an important direction of21st century geography education development. In April2003the new issued national ordinary high school geography curriculum standard (tests) emphasized the application of geographic information technology in high school geography course, and setting the geographical information system as the required contents in the geography course, at the same time in elective course setting GIS primarily the <geographic information technology application> elective course. Cooperative learning is to let the students in the group or team to complete the common task as the goal, have a clear division of responsibility of mutual learning, and students can use proper method and means to express, communicate reflect their geographic study and explore the experience in the process of cooperative learning. After the new curriculum reform, cooperative learning is becoming one of the teaching methods of higher frequency in teaching. The modern high school geography reform required to cultivate the persons who have the geography information consciousness and can flexible use the geographical knowledge into the production and living. All this requires the teacher change the traditional teaching mode in teaching process and with the spirit of innovation to seek new teaching methods that adapt to the geographic discipline development and geography cultivation of talents. Using geographic information technology into the cooperative learning is such of this method. It not only can effectively improve the geography teaching classroom atmosphere, optimization of the students’study way, improve the teaching effect, but also can enhance students’geographic information literacy, communication cooperation ability, all-round improve students’ comprehensive quality, make students form good character.This paper discusses the geographic information system in high school geography cooperation teaching application based on the theoretical research and education practice. The main research is the necessity, implementation conditions, methods and mode of the geographic information system in high school geography of cooperative learning applications, and combining with the teaching practice, comparison and analysis of the teaching effect. The research shows that:put the geography information system into the high school cooperative learning not only can strengthen the contact of the course content and the students’life and modern social and scientific and technological development, improve the students’interest in geographical study and enrich the students’geographic study experience, but also can make students master certain geographical elementary knowledge and the skills. In this process, advocating the active participation of students and exploring diligently to begin, training students’collecting and processing information, and the ability to gain new knowledge, analyze and solve the question ability. At the same time, let students learn how to communicate and cooperate with the other people.
