The Organization And Management Of Interdisciplinary Researches In Research Universities

Interdisciplinary research is the inexorable tendency of development of world science and technology, whose width and extent have become critical factors which strongly promote innovation, especially breakthroughs in fundamental researches. Nowadays, interdisciplinary research is widely applied to solve both nature science and social science problems. Due to human resource and multi-disciplines advantages, research universities could become the major research plateform and driven force for the interdisciplinary research.Taken the management theory of centralization and decentralization as premises, and focused on the organization and management of interdisciplinary research, the thesis consists of 2 parts and 6 chapters. Firstly, by literature overview, comparison and integrating qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis, the thesis describes interdisciplinary research's status quo and the changes in the last 20 years both in domestic and abroad research fields. Meanwhile, this thesis also primarily focuses on the useful experiences of management about interdisciplinary research in USA research universities. Secondly,this thesis raised several corresponding management methods and countermeasures about contemporary interdisciplinary researches, based on analysis of the development tendency,three main carriers and organization modes. In the part of case study, the interdisciplinary research organization and mechanism of Med-X institute in Shanghai Jiao Tong University was analyzed. It is necessary to study the appropriate organization mode, management methods and incentive policies in order to promote the interdisciplinary research. Also, the thesis finally came up with several organization and management patterns which may be appropriate for our universities. The final conclusion of the thesis is: university institutes should be the major organization model of research universities in China to promote interdisciplinary research.On the whole, with the intention of promoting interdisciplinary researches'development, this thesis provides several realistic viable suggestions for those interdisciplinary researches of our universities, and the countermeasures this thesis raises can be used for reference to involved interdisciplinary researches'management.
