Values education has been caught scholars'eyes at home and abroad for a long time, as its contents and forms varied in different times and under various circumstances. Undergraduates grew up in the social transformation, whose values affected by many aspects are so complicated both in formation and features. Carrying out values education of undergraduates is directly associated with healthy and successful growth, and is even closer attached to the development of the country and the stability of the whole society. Therefore, it is an important subject for higher educationists to comprehend and understand values education of undergraduates accurately and to probe the effective ways and measures, and it should draw the attention of society and family. Under the supervision of Marxism, the Thought of Mao Zedong, the Theory Den Xiaoping and the Three Representation, the paper applies related theory in ideological and political education and knowledge in humanities to make a deep discussion in the view of strengthening values education.From the angle of basic theory of values education, the paper illustrates the concept, characteristics and related theory of it and points out features of contemporary university students'values and harmful trends, with the conclusion of situation and dilemma, which makes up the key body of the paper. It is certain that some accomplishments have been achieved, yet there is work to be done in the new period; the remaining part probes the existing problems from four respects, higher education, social education, family education and self-education. In the conclusion, the core and difficult part of the paper, it attempts to work out principle and measures of values education and gives some suggestions, and emphasizes to make full use of the positive aspects of the four respects mentioned above with the result of a reasonable, pertinent and effective values education of contemporary university students.
