In July 2009, Shaanxi Youth Sports School, Shang Luo Sports School and Bao Ji Sports School are nominated as reserved talent bases of the state track and field walking project (2009-2012) for Olympic Games. The key point to get these honors for Shaanxi Walking Race is the excellent back-up talents. Therefore, it is necessary to do investigate and research about the status of youth walking movement in Shaanxi Province. However, young athletics are dispersedly distributed in different sports schools. In order to fully reflect the status, visits and surveys need to be done in those schools. In practice, competitive sports consist of athletes chosen, training, competitions and administration. In other words, to reflect the status of teenagers'walking item in our province, it is better to conduct investigations and studies from these four aspects. From surveys and analysis of the walking race project in ten various sports schools, the topic is going to find out the status of youth walking race in Shaanxi Province, analyze its pros and cons and make reasonable recommendations. It is hoped that it can provide reference for the development of youth walking race in Shaanxi Province. In this paper, various methods including literature, expert interviews, questionnaire and mathematical statistics are adopted to check a great deal of data about the status of youth walking movement at home and abroad, which makes the foundation for this paper. It refers the questionnaire from the aspect of race walking about the status of potential talents, athlete selection methods, the division of selection phases, the contents and standards of selection, the division of training stages, the tasks, methods, contents, load and demand of training, the status of competitions and the systems of administration in 10 various Shaanxi Province youth sports schools. Therefore, every aspect of youth race walking sport is understood. Furthermore, it also analyzes strengths and weaknesses existing in this sport. The research shows that the situation of back-up youth athletes in race walking sport in Shaanxi Province is relatively optimistic and it can meet the need of development in this field for Shaanxi Province. The main sources of teenagers'athletes in our province are from entrance examinations and coaches recommendation. Currently, the selection of athletes is based primarily on experience, associated with science method. Selection work can be divided into three stages, namely primary stage, the main selection stage and the optimization stage. However, each phase has a clear delineation of tasks and selection of specific content. Realistically, the selection criteria in these three stages can be analyzed from aspects of body shape, physical, psychological, physiological indicators. The contents of walking training for young people include fitness, technical capacity, tactical ability, mental ability, sports intelligence, recovery and training. Each phase has a specific training content and methods. Moreover, walking training for young people is combined growth and development, physiologically and psychologically. At the basic stage, young athletes in Shaanxi Province have competitions 2-3 times throughout the year, while there are 3-4 times in the special training phase. Most of competitions are held in spring and summer. Since competition arrangements have a significant impact for organizing training activities, it should have strict requirements to players during the period of competing. In order to raise the competing level of walking sport in our province, the structure of judgers must be strengthened. The management model of walking race which is a Shaanxi Province's traditional strength is in transition. Currently, it is mainly dominated by the traditional model of state administration and adopted the system of multi-level training network. There are some recommendations for the result. First, the scientific method in selecting athletes should be mainly adopted by coaches. As for training methods and means, the development of physical and mental health of young athletes should be fully considered. Then, according to various stages of youth training missions, different methods of training are used. Moreover, foundation coaches should always communicate and learn from each other for making mutual progress. Finally, when arranging physical training, coaches should make a proper schedule which is gradual and comprehensive in line with individual youth players, ages, sports levels, qualities, gender characteristics and so on. Based on years and levels of training, the exercise load should be adjusted and increased yearly. During years and annual training, coaches should always strengthen technical training. As an important part of training, recovery training should attract coaches'attention. When attending competitions, athletes do not only participate in main categories, but also sub categories. The structure of judgers needs to be strengthened. The principle of fair and equity is put emphasis to enhance the performance level of domestic judgers. Sports bureaus can give certain permissions and appropriate incentives, such as reducing the number of mandatory project layout requirements, properly caring traditional projects and advantage projects in some regions and increase training fees and contribution reward. The departments should also absorb advanced training ideas, reform related competition systems and improve the overall level of coaches. The sports management departments should input more in the walking project.
