In recent years, the junior middle school students' dropout has become more and more serious in rural areas, so that this issue must be paid close attention to by various sectors of society. In order to find out the deeper reasons and countermeasures behind the phenomena of the junior middle school students' dropout, this research comprehensively employed document analysis, interview, case study, experience summary, etc., and take three junior middle schools in A county of Henan province for cases. For convenience, this study classifies the students as three types according to their academic achievement, that is, outstanding students, intermediate students and underachievers. According to analysis, after the implementation of national free obligation education in 2006, the three types of junior middle school students' dropout has caused by common reasons and specific reasons. For finding out the common reasons, this research analyzed many documents; for finding out the specific reasons, the researcher interviewed the headmasters, class teachers and subject teachers. On the basis of these analyses of common and specific reasons, some feasible countermeasures have been proposed to effectively control the junior middle school students' dropout in A county. Thus, this paper's framework includes five parts as follows:Firstly, the introduce part presents the research background, significance and the review of document at home and abroad; Based on the dropout phenomenon in the rural junior middle school after "the popularizing plan of nine-year compulsory education", this paper reviews the relevant research documents at home and abroad in order to give some theoretical supports for effectively controlling the dropout phenomenon in the rural junior middle school.Secondly, the research theoretical basis and research design are demonstrated. This part analyzes the relevant theories of dropout, for example, the theory of learning motivation, the theory of learning strategies, and samples three junior middle schools in A county of Henan province for cases to interview their school masters, some class teachers and subject teachers.Thirdly, the current situation, problem and reasons are analyzed in this part, then summaries the common dropout reasons of three types of students:social reason, school reason, family reason and individual reason. The special reasons of three types of students include the follows in detail:the main dropout reason of excellent students is why the teachers and parents have too high expectation of them; the main dropout reason of intermediate students is why they make some subjects too good or too bad; and the main dropout reason of underachievers is why they have so low ability to deal with their academic works that teachers and students' parents lose faith of them.Fourthly, some feasible and effective countermeasures are put forward to prevent and resolve the issue of junior middle school students' dropout. This part puts forward some effective countermeasures from society, schools, family and individual according to the common dropout reasons of three types of students, and some strategies from the expectation of students' parents and teachers and academic performances and individual factors in accordance with the special dropout reasons of three types of students.At last, the conclusion part induces this research's results and points out some faultiness in this research and some problems in further research.
