Translation, especially one function of literary translation, is to promote culturalcommunication between different nations and make people to know more about otherethnic culture. China is noted for its long history and splendid civilizations. However,its unique national culture, especially the culture-loaded words, which is not very wellknown and accepted by the outside world. Facing with the fierce global economiccompetition, how to spread Chinese national culture and let the world know Chinaand its splendid culture become necessary and imperative. Culture-loaded words, thequintessence of national culture, have profound national connotations and strongnational characteristics. How to effectively introduce those national cultures to theoutside and let the world know China? At present, especially in culture translation,there are two different translation strategies: domestication and foreignization. As partof LuXun’s most influential works, Ah Q Zhengzhuan contains a number ofculture-loaded words, these cultural loaded words truly reflect the national culture ofthe times in the novel. At this point, the thesis chooses the masterpiece, Ah QZhengzhuan, as the typical representative of LuXun, the great standard-bearer ofnational culture. According to Venuti’s foreignizing translation, the author selectsthree typical versions and makes comparative and contrastive study in terms ofdifferent translation purposes, strategies and methods employed in the translated texts.Through comparative analysis, the author points out:the three translators chooseforeignization as their main strategy, retain the characteristics of the original culturefully, thus taking a respectful attitude to LuXun’s works and Chinese culture.
