On The Interpretation Of Chinese Dictionaries

Interpretation is the basis for creating dictionaries and an important component of the dictionariesmicrostructure. The quality of the dictionary depends heavily on the quality of the interpretation. Withthe development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,foreign pupils are expected more and moreto have command of dictionary interpretation terms.The main incentives for the continuousimprovement of oneiromancy are the latest theoretical developments on philology. For a long time theleading place was taken by the method of traditional interpretation provided by Aristotle "Necessaryand sufficient conditions". The weakness of this theory is that within one category all members havegeneral characteristics.and the members who don’t have these characteristics. are naturally excluded.In the sphere of culture and difficult semantics traditional interpretation is insufficient. In the1980’swith emergence and development of cognitive linguistics,dictionary interpretation found new forcesand prospects.Recently,the most topical issue for authors of dictionaries is the creation ofinterpretation structure from the cognitive point of view on the basis of the Chinese thinking and at thesame time maintaining suitability for training foreign pupils of Chinese.The Chinese languagedeveloped over time so the words have rich cultural contents. This article is based on such theories ofcognitive linguistics,as the prototype theory, the categorical theory and the cognitive theory ofmetaphors."The Chinese dictionary of commercial terms" is taken as a basis,the oneiromancy werechosen from it.This indicates plants,animals and numerals,and the advantages and shortcomings ofthese interpretations are studied.For the basic interpretation of these words two bilingual dictionariesfocused on foreign audience were made:"The big Chinese-Russian dictionary" and "The new practicalChinese-English dictionary".
