Functional words are ethereal and abstract, usage is often related grammar, syntax, pragmatics and other factors, so they are always difficulties of the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. Not only the students feel functional words are confusing and difficult to master, but also teachers are difficult to teach. Adverb “Jiu” is typical examples of functional words. It has many characteristics multiple meanings pragmatic complex flexible position high frequency and easily confused with other adverbs. In recent decades, the grammarian conducted a comprehensive and in-depth on study of adverbs, and yielded fruitful achievements, but the research on the errors of adverb “Jiu” are relatively limited.The thesis takes the meaning of adverb “Jiu” as its major focus, studying the syntactic patters, the semantic orientation of adverb “Jiu”. Based on the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus, the thesis summarizes the types of errors, deeply analysis the cause of these errors.It also proposes some effective teaching methods: comparative method, context-setting method and summarizing methods. After that advice are given to teachers second languages learners and textbook writers in terms of how to facilitate the study of adverb “Jiu”.
