Study On The Urban Tourist Destination Life Cycle

Since 1978, urban tourism and the related researches have been developing rapidly all over the world and become one of the most important parts of the world tourist industry. However, there are only a few literatures of study on the cycle of evolution of urban tourist destinations. At first, the thesis attempts to set up the dynamic modle of tourism development in destinations to interpret the mechanism of development in tourist area from the point of tourism system. Then selecting Nanjing as a case, the thesis analyses the charactertics of the urban tourism development and the factors influencing urban tourism development of Nanjing, and then according to the features of the cycle of evolution of urban tourism in Nanjing and the dynamic modle of tourism development, as well as the analysis to the factors affecting the urban tourism of Nanjing included by the variable in the dynamic modle, the evolution of urban tourism development in Nanjing is simulated and forecasted. Finally, the thesis proposes some suggestion for the sustainable development of tourism industry in Nanjing.The thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter 1 introduces the definition of urban tourism and the theory of the life cycle of tourist area, and then summarizes recent research situation in China ans overseas, and puts forward the significance of the research of the life cycle of urban touris destination.Chapter 2 attempts to set up the dynamic modle of tourism development in destinations from the point of tourism system and discusses the various situations in the modle.Chapter 3 deals with the charactertics of tourism system in Nanjing, concluding the factors influcing its urban tourism development, and discusses the features of tourism system of Nanjing segmented markets.Chapter 4 simulates and forcastes the evolution of urban tourism development in Nanjing based on the charactertics of the life cycle of Nanjing tourist area tries to propose some suggestions for the sustainable development of tourism industry in Nanjing.Chapter 5 draws the conclusion of the whole thesis.
