In the 21st century, the competition is becoming fiercer and fiercer, especially for human resource developing and latent energy fully utilizing in organization. Any organization which wants to maintain substantial development, it must pay high attention to human resources management. It is an important component of contemporary human resources management and brand-new developing direction that the career development and management. However, a lot of organizations and individuals lack relevant knowledge of career development, not speaking of carrying on scientific career development project and management, because it is not long since it was introduced to us, thus, relevant research and practice is not sufficient in our country.In knowledge economy, talents become the core resource with economic globalization and international competition, knowledge worker are ascending main body in work. One obvious characteristic of knowledge worker is that they show much concern on their competency upgrade and career development. In view of competency increasingly becoming the base for individual to survive and develop in society, this dissertation takes knowledge worker as researching object, career development as thread, aims at competency upgrade, studies competency approaches to career development emphatically - work-related learning -competency upgrade mechanism, summarizes competency development model and analyzes its characteristic. On the basis of studying relevant career developing theories systematically, we found the career development of competency upgrade model meets both individuals demand and organization requirement through theoretical research and analysis, in addition, it can promote organization and society development while individual developing his career, this offers the solution for the dilemma that individuals and organization are facing and a helpful trail to structure harmonious society in theory.This dissertation consists of six parts. Part one is preface, which puts the problems of career development faced by knowledge worker on the table, then gives the background and the meaning of study. In Chaptertwo, briefly introduce the research on career develop and competency in the world, this lays the ground for the coming study on career development of competency upgrade model. The third section focuses on competency upgrade approach and mechanism while career developing, it summarizes three types of learning methods which is the solid foundation for the career development of competency upgrade model. The forth part creates a new career development model of competency upgrade and demonstrates its inevitability, which offers reference to career development for knowledge worker and human resources management. Part five analyzes its characteristic for career development of competency upgrade model, and advises organization management strategies accordingly. The last part summarizes this dissertation and outlook the further study in this field.
