In today's world, competition, in the final analysis, is talent competition. With the healthy development of the company, raise the level of management is the key to survive and develop in this ever competitive market. As the core driving force to deal with the competition, the importance of human resource management has gradually recognized and accepted by most senior staff of a company. How to develop and manage the human resource effectively and gain a competitive advantage has become the challenge that each enterprise need to face on the way to their success. The enterprise to survive and development, suitable talent appears to be essential, however, with the talent but don't understand how to use them properly may put your company in an unfavorable position in the severe competition market so it is obvious that no matter what the size a company is, human resource management is not dispensable.After over three decades of reform and opening up, the small and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs) has made great progress and plays more and more important role in the national economy. However, the current situation of human resource management in SMEs does not optimistic, most of them are not given sufficient attention to recruiting, training, performance and compensation management, etc. human resource related work, which become the bottleneck of the development of the SMEs.In this paper, on the basis of theoretical knowledge of management science, human resource management, psychology and organizational behavior, etc., First of all, we examine the importance of human resource management in SMEs. And then, we adopt a combination of theory and case study method to understand the current HRM situation of company S. Next, we pointed out the problems in company S(?)s employee recruiting, training and developing, performance appraisal and compensation management. Finally, we provide several improvement countermeasures to company S for their reference and consideration. At the same time, we also hope that those suggestions could be helpful for SMEs healthy development in the new era and under the new economy conditions.
