In the context of macro economy of guaranteeing growth and expanding domestic demand, metro construction is blossoming in countrywide. Plenty of construction managerial staff is engaging in the metro construction. Metro construction industry is of high danger, not to mention the unpredictability due to underground construction. Metro construction managerial staff is under great stress from variety aspects. Job stress is one of the key issues that the staff engaging in this industry is facing. Job stress impacts job satisfaction as well as the degree of work engagement of the staff, which ultimately influence the achievement of the key objectives of metro construction project such as safety, quality, deadline, ROI. Therefore, an in-depth study on the root of job stress of the metro construction managerial staff and exploration of effective ways to relieve job stress are of great significance. This paper aims to learn the state of job stress, job satisfaction and work engagement of metro construction managerial staff, inspect the correlation between job stress and work engagement and verify the mediator effect of job satisfaction against work engagement.Following are the detailed research thoughts:Firstly, based on the theoretical principle from the relative documentation on job stress, job satisfaction and work engagement etc, combined with the real life practice of metro construction managerial staff, this paper proposes the mental model and the problems to be solved; secondly, adopting the methods of the combination of theory with practice as well as the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis, the author understands the situation of job stress, job satisfaction and work engagement through the methods of interviewing and questionnaire survey and so on, study the prediction function of "job stress" as the antecedent variable against "work engagement" as the induced variable by applying SPSS15.0 software for data analysis, and discover the mediator effect of "job satisfaction" as the mediator variable between "job stress" and "work engagement".The main conclusions obtained from the study are as below:①The research shows that job stress of metro construction managerial staff is of high degree as a whole. Among all the dimensions, stress resulting from job itself and work life conflict are of the highest. The degree of work engagement is moderate and job satisfaction is moderate to inferior. ②The root of job stress of metro construction managerial staff could be measured from four dimensions:the job itself, organization culture, career development and work family conflict. Job satisfaction could be measured from the job itself and organization culture, while work engagement consists of three dimensions which are dedication, absorption and vigor.③There is notable correlation among the root of job stress, job satisfaction and work engagement. The correlation between job stress and job satisfaction is negative. Job satisfaction and work engagement if of positive correlation, while job stress and work engagement is of negative. There is notable correlation among the dimensions of the key variables as well.④The dimensions of job itself and organization culture of job stress root have remarkable impact on the job satisfaction and work engagement. However, though the stress value of work family conflict is high, it has not shown impact on job satisfaction and work engagement. The impact from career development has not been shown either.⑤The mediator effect of job satisfaction against work engagement has been verified.Finally, in connection with the research results obtained from the study, combining with the real life practice of metro construction managerial staff of the 16th Bureau of China Railway Construction, the author put forward several suggestions to relieve job stress of metro construction managerial staff, which including standardizing construction management, building up people training&development system, cultivating organization culture of equality, respect & involvement as well as balancing work and family. These suggestions could be a certain practical guide for effectively easing the job stress degree of metro construction managerial staff.
