Knowledge economy and economic globalization make enterprises face long-term opportunities and challenges in market competition and enterprise development. China is still a developing country, whose enterprise management model and core techniques are inferior to the developed countries. Chinese enterprises, therefore, have to utilize the theories and tools of knowledge management to upgrade innovation capabilities so as to obtain new competitive advantage. Thus, as far as knowledge management theory is concerned, it is important to clarify the relationship between enterprise knowledge management and competitiveness.This thesis is divided into 5 chapters. Chapter 1 focuses on the significance and background of choosing this subject, and describes the research actualities of enterprise knowledge management and competitiveness at home and abroad. In chapter 2 the related theories of knowledge management and competitiveness are systematically summarized. In chapter 3 the frame structure of knowledge management is established by analyzing these theories. Knowledge management consists of 5 factors and a core, i.e. acquisition and filtering, integration and storage, dissemination and sharing, learning and utility, and innovation and increment, and its core is human resource management. Enterprise competitiveness consists of 3 factors, i.e. mechanism, culture and learning capability, which result in enterprise innovation and ultimately form competitive advantage. Effectively managing human resource can upgrade knowledge management capabilities by combining and integrating enterprise' knowledge and experience, culture and organizational learning capability. And these capabilities results in technical innovation and knowledge innovation. Consequently, successful enterprise knowledge management makes an enterprise obtain sustainable competitive advantage. According to the results of summarization and analysis of the factors, a relationship model is set up for enterprise knowledge management and competitiveness, showing the process of how the knowledge management is transformed into a competitive advantage. Interactions of knowledge and experience, culture and organizational learning capability that are hard to copy will originate technical innovation, knowledge innovation and market capability, which bring a sustainable competitive advantage. There is a positive correlation between knowledge management and competitiveness. In chapter 4 the actualities and problems of knowledge management and competitiveness in China's enterprises are pointed out. At the end of this thesis, chapter 5, some suggestions and measures are made for China' enterprises to improve the level of knowledge management and to increase competitiveness.
