Various crises frequently occur in recent years, which restrict the potential sustainable development of tourism. So tourism crisis management has become a popular focus of academic research. The study on the crises management of the tourist areas, which play a great role in tourism industry, is far from enough. This study aims to do a pilot study on the crises management of the mountainous tourist areas, which is the most typical and representative type of tourist areas.By means of literary review and data collection, the correlated basic theory was first clarified and defined. Then a telephone survey was conducted on the current crisis management situation of mountainous tourist areas. As a result, it was found that there are rules and facilities at most of the mountainous tourist areas, and most managers have crisis consciousness. But It was also noticed that many problems of the crisis management at these mountainous tourist areas need to be solved, such as indistinct concept of crisis management, unsystematic rules, obsolete facilities used in the management and slowness in responsiveness to crisis. A lot of things need to be done to improve the crisis management of mountainous tourist areas. On the basis of predecessors' research findings, a crisis management model of mountainous tourist areas was built. This model was modified on the model CMSS, combining the features of mountainous tourist areas, and the operation of the model is clearly introduced. This new model inherits such good merits of CMSS as indistinct structure, flexible reaction, unified decision and direct management. This model also combined with the specialty of mountainous tourist areas, combing the role information scouts with that of executants. In addition, the insurance system is put in the same important position as decision system, information system, executive system and consultation system in this new model.
