Competency Model is a definition on the competency of a person and a summarization on structured "behavioral description" of corresponding capacity.The management level of a corporation depends,to a considerable degree,on the management level of the managerial personnel,which depends on their competency.Constructing competency model for the managerial personnel is significant for strengthening competitive advantage and sustainable development of a corporation. With the ever-increasing market competition and continuously improving managerial expertise across the world,how to combine the advanced foreign management with the actual need of our corporations is a great concern of most Chinese entrepreneurs. Especially in information technology industry,which has higher competency requirements for managerial personnel than traditional industry does,it is a very urgent need to use and share modernized tools managing talented staff.It will be a practical project of high application value to research on competency model and its application within corporations.This article,based on document research,behavioral event interview and strategic study,analyzes and develops the competency model construction of a typical information technology corporation-TX Corporation.Firstly,this article systematically introduces the theoretical basis,reference template,behavioral event interview and definition description of constructing competency model,and builds up a general competency model construction path of "information collection,information processing,summarization analysis and model confirmation",which is applicable to all corporations.Secondly,in view of the core competency requirements for managerial personnel and focusing on the actual situation of TX Corporation,it divides the extract and construction of competency model into four major parts,ten concrete competency elements,giving detailed behavioral description of competency for managerial personnel at different levels.The innovation of this article lies in its behavioral description that breaks through scattering and high-cost information collection and description method.Instead,it uses a designed "behavioral interview operation tool" sheet to directly correspond to the behavior required by each competency element extracted and exported.Finally,on the basis of competency model of managerial personnel in TX Corporation,this article presents how to apply competency model within the corporation step by step, and forms a plan focusing on cultivating managerial personnel,promoting their competency.The purpose of this research project is to provide some instructions for TX Corporation to Construct competency model,and also provide rewarding references for information technology corporations with the similar background to construct their own competency model for managerial personnel.
