Application ability of number requires students to develop and demonstrate their skills in interpreting information involving numbers, carrying out calculations, interpreting results and presenting finding in their studies, work or other aspects of your life. The application of number is the main ability that the students need develop in secondary vocational education. To fulfill the objective, teachers have to combine applying number skills with each major in secondary vocational school.In the present study, we investigated how the application ability of number is needed to meet the demands of electronic commerce (e-commerce) major, and developed a new teaching model based on project teaching method. The application ability of number of all the e-commerce major students in Wenzhou Secondary Vocational School was investigated using questionnaire, individual interview, experimental study and statistical analysis, and the efficacy of project teaching method was also determined in improving the applying number skills.The results of the present study shows: (1) The performance record was significant high in the project teaching method group, indicating The students'application ability of number could be improved thorough project teaching method; (2) The teacher interview investigation indicates that the project teaching method improve the application number kills, thus make students do well in e-commerce major course; (3) The results of student questionnaire shows that the project teaching method is an effective way of arousing the students' interest and enhance the enthusiasm of learning. Based on the above results, and combined with the corrent situation of the secondary vocational school in China, the present study provides the suggestion on curriculum and teaching reform of mathematics education in the secondary vocationa school.
