Aiming at providing the clients better designs solutions regarding with shortened developing schedule, the successful management throughout the lifecycle of building product development has become ever more important, and conceptual design undoubtedly is the bottleneck which exerts the vital influences. However, the conceptual design solutions with poor quality and inefficiency have often unavoidable been provided because it inadequately supports the decision-makings of conceptual stage that the often lack of integrated information of the cross-disciplinary knowledge and information from clients, designers and contractors due to the traditional theories and methods organizationally and technically. Therefore, this paper presents the findings of a research effort of how to conduct the decision-makings of conceptual stage in a systematic manner based on an integrated and concurrent platform by developing a client requirement management system for the conceptual design of building product development.Firstly, after the situation of conceptual design for building product development in China was analyzed, quality function deployment (QFD), a theory originally used in system engineering was introduced to develop an algorithm for conceptual design inference based on fuzzy QFD. Then a solution modeled by IDEF was carried out for the client requirement information management system for conceptual design. Based on the framework above, secondly, the system was developed on advanced mode of browser/server (B/S) with Visual Basic .net as the desktop tool in clients and Oracle 9i as the database management system in server. Finally, the potential improvements and research prospects were given in this paper after a thorough summarization and evaluation of the system.
