It's been quite a long period of time that class teaching system, as one of the teaching models, has been put into practice in the area of basic education, and contributed a great deal to the development of our basic education. However, this unitary teaching system ignores the different characters of students. As a result, it interrupt the development of the students' characters. From the perspective of long-term development, it will be bad for our country to cultivate creative specialists and face the challenge of knowledge-based economy in the 21st century. Therefore, another new curriculum reform in primary and secondary schools has been carried out. Its purpose is to further improve the quality of nation, and make the students realize their personality development which is based on their all-round development. Because of a great many disadvantages in traditional class teaching model, the central content of New Curriculum is to reform the traditional teaching model, respect the difference of students' personality and development, use differential instuctions according to different students.Differential instuction a kind of teaching method which admits the difference existing among students and meets the different students' personal need. So it will accelerate every student to get all-round development. When teachers carry out the differential instuction, on the one hand, they must research the general character of students. On the other hand, they must focus more on difference of them. Teachers should realize every student's advantage and potential then find a proper teaching method which fits the student so that every student's need will be satisfied. This paper starts from the background of differential instuction, its present situation and its train of thought. It is based on these educational theories such as pedagogic, psychology, the principle of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, multiple intelligence theory and the concept of inclusive education. Then, this paper discusses the definition of differential instuction, its characters and its practical activities at home and abroad. It also combines new curriculum reform with senior history teaching practice. It takes people's version of high school history textbooks for example, adopts the method of documentary analysis, comparison and case analysis to analyzing and studying differentiate instruction in senior middle school of new history course. According to finding the diversity of students, the paper puts forward a useful and practical strategy to carry out differential instruction in senior middle school.
