The Nls Used In Zusanli On Shangjuxu, Under The Giant Virtual Acupoints Specificity

Objective:Compare the relative specificity of acupuncture points ST 36(zu san It,足三里), ST 37 (shang ju xu,上巨虚) and ST 39 (xia ju xu,下巨虚) by using the Nonlinear Analysis System (NLS), and observe the effect on the energy level of various organs in different periods after acupuncture.Methods:Select 120 cases of chronic gastrointestinal symptoms according to the inclusion criteria, randomly divided them into four 30 cases groups of ST 36, ST 37, ST 39 and control group. Monitor each group with NLS before acupuncture, and at 10 minutes,1 hour and 24 hours after finishing acupuncture, no acupuncture treatment for the control group, monitor each case for four times in each time section.Results:From the NLS results, needling the three points has effect on the energy level of a variety of organs, showing significant difference from the control group (P<0.05).①Needling on ST 36, ST 37 and ST 39 all lead to increased energy level of the stomach and small intestine; the acupuncture effect of ST 36 and ST 39 on small intestine is significant in a certain period of time after finishing acupuncture; the effect of ST 37 on small intestine last from 1 hour till 24 hours after finishing acupuncture, and the effect of it on large intestine and rectum is more significant than the other two points.②Besides stomach, large intestine and small intestine, the three points also have effect on other digestive organs, on the tissues and organs of all the other major system, such as the respiratory, circulatory, urinary, reproductive, endocrine, immune and nervous systems; ST 36 and ST 37 have effect on a more extensive organ than ST 39, they also have an earlier onset time and a longer lasting effect.③Most organs show change of energy level 10 minutes after finishing acupuncture and peak at 1 hour after, the ST 36 and ST 37 groups can maintain an energy level above the original baseline even at 24 hours after finishing the acupuncture; the energy level of the ST 39 group members mostly drop back to the baseline within 24 hours, and that of the members of the control group are usually below the baseline or have minor fluctuations around the baseline.Conclusion:①ST 36, ST 37 and ST 39 have effect on the energy level of stomach and small intestine. Among them, ST 37 has a stronger effect on large intestine and rectum, and a more significant effect on small intestine than ST 39. This finding is a little bit different from the ancient theories about lower he-sea points.②The NLS results is a powerful evidence for the effect of the three acupuncture points, and suggests that they have a broader application than what discussed in the ancient classics, providing guides for the clinical application.③Moreover, a preliminary finding of the pattern of the energy level change of different organs in 24 hours after acupuncture was found through NLS monitoring, the changes usually peak at 1 hour after finishing the acupuncture.
