In the second language teaching, the textbook determines the basic content of teaching, reflects the basic principle and methods of teaching, is the foundation and main basis of classroom teaching.So an ideal textbook is essential to improve the quality of teaching.At present, the different kinds of quantity of Chinese textbook which our country publishes basically meet the needs of domestic and international teaching, but there are still many shortcomings compared with the New Concept English which has a wider impact.Different from the Chinese textbook, the New Concept English regards sentence pattern as the teaching unit, teaches learners one sentence but not single, isolated words. So this article selects three elementary Chinese teaching materials----New Practical Chinese Reader, Developmental Chinese and Elementary Chinese Reader as research subjects, comparing with sentence pattern teaching of the New Concept English (â… ) in-depth comparative analysis, discussing respective advantages and disadvanges, hoping to offer some new thinkings for the writing of Chinese teaching material.The first chapter is introduction. It introduces topics significance, research objects and methods of this article, summarizes the investigatory present situation of textbook and sentence pattern at home and abroad and defines sentence pattern in this arcical on the basis of Chinese scholars and English scholars, and introduces the Audiolingual Methord and the Founctional Approach.The second chapter specifically addressed the characteristics of sentence pattern in this textbook from four aspects of sentence pattern establishment, practice establishment, sentence pattern recurrence rate and the relationship between sentence pattern teaching and vocabulary teaching.The third chapter describes respectively sentence pattern teaching of the three textbooks of New Practical Chinese Reader., Developmental Chinese and Elementary Chinese Reader concretely in detail from four aspects of sentence pattern establishment, practice establishment, sentence pattern recurrence rate and the relationship between sentence pattern teaching and vocabulary teaching.And on this basis we proposes some shallow views.The four chapter compares and analyzes the New Concept English and Chinese textbooks deep from four aspects of sentence pattern establishment, practice establishment, sentence pattern recurrence rate and the relationship between sentence pattern teaching and vocabulary teaching, summarizes respective advantages and disadvanges.The final chapter summarizes this study,and points out that insufficient.We hope to offer some new thinkings for the writing of Chinese teaching material, according to the comparison and analysis of the New Concept English and the three Chinese textbooks.
