The communication and cooperation between people with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds take place quite often within the area of business, military cooperation, scientific research team work, education, mass media, entertainment and tourism, as well as the immigration brought about by labor shortage and political reasons. Cross-cultural communication and intensified intercultural interaction is highly demanded in the shrinking "global village". The topic of intercultural communication competence study is a multidisciplinary pavilion integrating materials from a variety of disciplines, such as anthropology, sociology, psychology linguistics, international relations, etc, into a comprehensive and coherent text. Culture diversity such as peoples' assumptions, values and beliefs, communication and negotiation styles sometimes block the way of efficiency and accuracy of cross-cultural communication.In this dissertation, I try to explore the culture diversity in intercultural communication and the new area of intercultural competence training, focusing on the interpretation and analysis of the reason which cause culture conflict during the process of intercultural communication, as well as do some comparative study of intercultural communication training models in order to learn from the outside world and gain some experience in intercultural training in China. The dissertation includes four chapters.Chapter One is preview about the context of the study, including the necessity of intercultural communication competence in the globalized world and different groups who involve in intercultural communication.Chapter Two is the central part of the dissertation composed of four parts: part one, analysis of the term of culture in home and abroad literatures, part two, is about the culture character and its great influence to intercultural communication process. Part three introduces Hofstede culture dimension; part four exploring of the aspects of culture diversity; part five analysis of the consequence of culture diversity -culture conflict and culture shock. Part six is about the self adaptation of culture shock.Chapter Three is about the available method to overcome the culture shock?intercultural communication training. First part is a brief distinction between the terms of orientation, education and training. The following part is the objectives and structure of intercultural training. Part three focuses on the comparative study of intercultural training models in the U.S. accompanied by a case study-simulation game ' Barnga.'Chapter four conclusion about some reflective think of culture diversity and intercultural training situation in China.
