Small Class Effective Teaching Of English Classroom Teaching Mode

Effective teaching in class is one of the important factors for students to learn effectively. It is agreed that there are some differences in teaching English in big and small classes. However, as far as the author of this paper is concerned, there are few studies on the effective teaching in small classes. Therefore, researching into the effectiveness of English teaching in small classes has become the objective of this research.The author of this thesis has first conducted a survey investigating some important factors contributing to effective English learning on the part of the students, such as the students' motivation, their interest in learning English, their willingness to cooperate with others, etc.. . Second, based on the major findings from the investigation, the author designed a model of effective English teaching with some relevant theories as the underlining principles. Third, the author conducted an empirical study on the students of two groups (the experiment group and the control group) for one school year in an attempt to test the validity of this model.The results of the experiment indicate that this model really works in small English classes and some major findings can be summarized as follows: 1) a proper use of multi-media can assist the teaching and leaning by way of motivating students better and maintaining their interests in English learning; 2) it is very important for English teachers to plan and describe clear learning objectives for each class and make them known to the students; 3) it is essential for teachers to design and organize a variety of learning activities in different ways, such as group work, pair work, whole class work, etc.. 4) homework should be designed and given in accordance of the different levels of the students.At the same time, this research may offer some useful suggestions to English teachers. In order to assist teaching English in class English teachers should use multi-media reasonably and appropriately. They should organize classroom activities more carefully, taking into consideration things like the students' seating arrangement, grouping so as to ensure the effectiveness of the activities which in turn is the guarantee of the effective teaching and learning in class.
