With a thorough study of the concept and characteristics of the general verb,this thesis will make a further analysis on the general verb from a three-dimensional perspective i.e.syntax,semantic and pragmatic, with five general verbs as examples,i.e.da(打),gao(搞),gan(干),nong (弄),and zuo(做).On the dimension of syntax,with both commonness and individuality being taken into consideration,common features of the five general verbs will be explained in terms of their grammatical locations and functions, the distinction is also to be made at the aspects of their collaboration and the range of object of each word.;On the dimension of semantic, discussion will be made on what conditions are required for the general verb to function in the place of other verbs,and on the semantic features, the deep semantic case and the syntactic limitation of the general verb,so as to fully present the semantic features of the kind;On the dimension of pragmatic,the thesis will focus on such aspects as the relation between the meaning-generalization of the general verb and the related context, the law governing their presence in various texts,the possibility and necessity of their existence and how to utilize them appropriately.Based on the prior studies by other scholars,this thesis is expected to push forward a little the research on the syntax,pragmatic and semantic especially of the general verb,making some minute contributions to the concerning area.
