On the basis of literature and the previous research, the study focused on the leadership styles in the multi-domestic business setting and the relationship between leadership styles and performance. We analyzed how development stages of small and medium-sized enterprises influenced leadership styles, and discussed how organizational support and superior-subordinate relationship moderated the relationship between leadership styles and performance at work. In addition,we proposed effective suggestions to the adoption of the leadership styles in multi-domestic business. Two hundred and thirty-two employees from eighteen companies were surveyed by questionnaires. The hypotheses were largely supported. The main results were showed as follows:1,In the multi-domestic business setting, leaders tended to adopttransformational leadership, while in the localized business setting, leaders tended to adopt transactional leadership style.2,In the multi-domestic business setting, transformational leadershipled to higher job satisfaction, organizational commitment and better personal performance than those of transactional leadership. 3,In the multi-domestic business setting, leaders from smallercompanies were more likely to demonstrate transformational leadership style than those from the larger ones.4,In the multi-domestic business setting, managers from join-venturesand private companies tended to show higher transformational leadership style than those of state-owned companies.5,In the multi-domestic business strategy setting,at the starting andgrowth stages, managers tended to use transformational leadership style, while at the maturity and declining stages they tended to adopt transactional leadership style.6,There was significant interaction between leadership styles,superior-subordinate relationship and organizational support on personal performance, organizational commitment andjob satisfaction.
