The Transfer Of Functional Strategies In Supply Chain Management Applications

Supply chain management (SCM) is the hottest topic of business management recently. From early 80s till now, SCM has become a ripe theory system and a kind of strategy. Various types of tactics (e.g. postponement tactics and virtual production) have been put forward to realize the SCM better abroad. The theory about SCM can be seen in many articles and books in domestic, but the research of SCM tactics is still not enough. So a kind of tactics called functional shiftability is studied in this thesis.The tactics of functional shiftability contributes to higher efficiency of SCM and better application of resources. The application of functional shiftability to SCM has brought many new chances for supply chain members. The thinking of functional shiftability was put forward several decades ago and has been applied in many fields of supply chain. But because of the limitation of the theoretical basis and operational process, it is hard to popularize the functional shiftability tactics. This paper tries to perfect the theoretical basis of functional shiftability and make the thinking become a kind of tactics.Firstly, the paper explains the emergence and development of this thinking and proposes the limitation of it. To resolve the problem, some attempt and creation are made to set up a complete theoretical system. Secondly, the paper analyzes the content of functional shiftability and narrates the function of it in different level of the supply chain. After having given the theoretical framework of the functional shiftability, the author explains the process to realize it. The target of it is to improve the efficiency of the whole supply chain, so the achievement measurement is very important. The index of efficiency is put forward to measure the results of functional shiftability by using the DBA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method. At last, the tactics is applied to the logistics management and analyzing the evolution process from 3PL to 4PL.The research method of this paper is the combination of theory study and case analysis, the qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. Thecreativity is the analysis of function characteristics, which are the characteristics of shiftability and integration. Next the paper puts forward the basic framework to realize it. Then an index is introduced to perfect the achievement measurement system. Last, the paper discusses the application inlogistics management.Of course, the above-mentioned research is based on the study of Roger Blackwell, Bernard J. Lalonde and other researchers.
