Large International Logistics Enterprise's Core Competitiveness Study

Along with the prosperity of economy, the functions of logistic become more and more prominent. As a most important link of logistics industry, third party logistics provide a new mode for contract logistics. It minimize the inventory and at the same time provide a more efficient, cost-effective logistics service.Nowadays in western developed country, 3PL is highly developed with lots of advanced technologies. While in China, logistic industry is just developing. Our 3PL companies is relatively weak compares with international large scale 3PLs. Therefore, it is very necessary to analyze how to build up our own strong international 3PL company.This article starts from the concepts of third party logistics and its main business scope, through the analysis of current development of logistics business in developed countries, concludes the common trend of world leading 3PL companies. Then summarize four factors as core competitiveness for world large-scale 3PLs: Advanced IT system and capability; around global service network; up-to-date marketing method; reliable organizational & human resource support. Aided by the example of Menlo worldwide, one of world top player in integrated supply chain management service provider, to prove the above four factors are the reason for their success in rapid growth.Then base on the competing environment after China became a member of WTO, this article proposes that our domestic 3PL enterprise should focus on above four factors, so that to build up our own core competitiveness.
