It is also called as the urbanization road. The chapter analyses the advantages and disadvantages of three types which is the big-city-leading, the middle-city-dominating and the small-city-gathering, and probes into the relation of the geography location, the industrial structure, the population density, the city function, the economic development level, etc and the urbanization mode's choice.Chapter 2 puts stress on the urbanization status of the west. It shows that the urbanization of the west is very different from the mid and the east on the rate of population urbanization, the city scale, the city function, the city economic level and the city spatial distribution by a lot of statistics and factual data. It also points that the adverse geography circumstance, the old system of planned economy and the regional economy policy are the main causes of the lag urbanization of the west. Later, It analyses the lag's negative effect.Chapter 3 puts forward the characteristic urbanization of the west on the basis of the front analysis. To bring up emphatically big and middle city and develop selectively small city and town is the mode by which the west speeds up the urbanization for the future. According as the different characters of the west's different region, It puts forward the city's development distribution which are the gathering-group shape, the chain shape, and spread-point shape. In the end, from the angle of the government function's transformation, the industrial structure's upgrade, the agricultural development, etc, it discusses some measures that ensure the urbanization mode of the west smoothly carrying out.
