Rural Tourism Community Participation Mechanisms

The domestic and international practices indicate that it is very significant for rural communities to develop tourism. Rural tourism, which is considered as an important means to spur the rural economy and drive the rural social development in our country, is paid attention to by more and more governments.On the other hand, the development of rural tourism has brought a series of influences to rural communities, and some of these influences are negative. In addition, traditional tourism planning has not attached much importance to the benefits and demands of community residents. All of these have arisen the discontent of rural community residents, and in turn prevented the development of rural tourism.The investigation on rural community residents shows that tourism has four major effects on rural community residents such as quality of life, economy, social relationships and collectivity value. And the results of AHP on expert opinions show that effects on the participation of rural community residents in tourism are arranged in an order of economic factors, the political factors, individual factors and social cultural factors, among which economic factors play a leading role. According to the results of investigation and data analysis, we can build up a framework of the mechanism of rural community residents' participation in tourism from four respects, including: the guide mechanism, the decision-making mechanism, the interests-sharing mechanism and the monitoring mechanism, to push the rural teurism of our country towards a fine road of development.
