In the long history of the UN reform, there are many factors which have great influence on its course of reform; undoubtedly, the factor of US is the most important one. Through a detailed research of its function, means and influence in each of the UN reform, we can get a better knowledge of US's interests in the UN reform and the way of the US to exert influence on the UN reform. It is of vital importance for the international community to respond favorably to the challenge of the America's unilateralism and other challenges, ease the pressure from the United States, and even impose a restriction on the latter. At the same time, it will provide a reference from indirect sources for us to understand China's UN policy and the relationship between China and UN.The approach to the thesis is: In vertical section, the author will analyze the historical development of the UN reform, and in transverse section, the author will try to discuss the different levels of U.S. factor. Through an analysis of the two sections, the author will try to find the functions and rules of the U.S. factor on the UN reform. Chapter One will introduce the definition of some important concepts in this thesis in order to provide a foundation for the analysis in the latter chapters. Chapter Two, Chapter Three, Chapter Four and Chapter Five will discuss the four stages of the UN reform respectively. In these chapters, the author will carry out a detailed research of the US's function in the UN reform, and try to make an analysis of American's interest in each stage of the UN's reform, and how the US factor exerts a great influence on its reform in each stage and the result of the influence of the US factor in each stage's UN reform, and so on. In the conclusion part, the author will try to summarize the US's function and influence on the UN reform, draw lessons from UN reform for our country, and carry on an outlook to the UN reform in the future.The thesis brings forth new ideas in the following aspects:Firstly, it will carry out an overall research of UN reform and US factor comprehensively and systematically.Secondly, it will do a through and careful research into US's function and influence UN reform in each stage.Thirdly, based on the foundation of the systematic analysis and a through research, the thesis will make a contrastive analysis and try to make an objective and comprehensive judgment of US'function, thereby to provide a solid foundation for our country's counter-measure research.
