Poetry is one of the earliest literary genres in China and even in the word, and it is also a kind of literary form which may concentratedly and perfectly express various phenomena of the social life and the spiritual world of human beings. Poetry is usually filled with concise language, rich imagination and great expression. Poetry learning plays an important role in the cultivation of the aesthetic judgment, observation ability and imagination of high school students, may motivate their patriotism, cultivate their noble-minded moral sentiment and shape their independent personalities.Although the poetry learning plays an important educative role during the growth of high school students, throughout the existing poetry teaching of High School Chinese, there are still many malpractices. The problems in the poetry teaching of High School Chinese primarily root in two aspects of the teachers and the students:the students’lack of learning interest and the teachers’single teaching method. There are multiple reasons which bring about these problems, including biased social ideas, influence of examination-oriented education system, attainment deficiency of teachers, and so on.In consideration of the problems existing in the poetry teaching of High School Chinese and their causes, the poetry teaching of High School Chinese must take a comprehensive and intensive reform. Firstly, start from updating the poetry education concepts. In present society, people play material desires at the first place, but pay little attention to such ancient and traditional literary form as poetry. Therefore, it is especially important to update the poetry education concepts. Secondly, cultivate the students’passion in poetry learning. In class, the teachers shall skillfully create question situations to excite the learning interest. Thirdly, the teachers shall strengthen the accumulation, improve their professional qualities, take introspection frequently and develop teaching skills. In the end, by laying emphasis on poetry reading, mastering poetry appreaication and encouraging poetry writing, the teachers shall optimize the poetry teaching method, so as to improve the quality and efficiency of poetry teaching. In aspect of poetry reading, the teachers’direction shall be strengthened and the example imitation shall be emphasized; in aspect of poetry appreciation, the teachers shall teach the students the efftive appreciation methods; in the aspect of poetry writing, the teachers shall encourage the students to practice more.
