Professional sport is a critical part of sport industry, professional basketball has been gaining its popularity since1995. The construction of sports power creates a turning point to further professional basketball.By the contrast with American、Spain、Korea professional basketball development, this paper discusses the problems emerged during the history of Chinese basketball, analyses the factors, and finally put forwards the routes.The main viewpoint and academic conclusion are as follow.(1) Sports powerful nation construction comprises competitive sports、mass sports、 sport industry and sports culture. The current situation is that, competitive sports is prominent and lack of balance, mass sports progresses a lot, sport industry is undeveloped, sports culture needs further research.Professional basketball contributes a lot to developing sport industry and removing the unbalanced phenomenon in competitive sports, conduces to complete the building of a well-off society.(2) Beijing Olympic Games would help to flourish Chinese professional basketball, we should learn espanol professional basketball strategy after Barcelona Olympic Games.The key factors count for American professional basketball are league tournament brand、talents system、perfect competition system、league culture and system guarantee.The reference function of Korea professional league is reserve talents cultivation and scientific competition regulations.(3) The main troubles Chinese professional basketball confronts are as follows, the league brand is not of influence, the cultivation of talents is not enough, the league is lack of culture and system construction; there exists faultiness in the competition rules, the grave absence of regulation is rationality and stability, the amount of season matches is small, the time span is short, arrangement on some special games is not reasonable.(4) The critical factors result in these problems are imperfect administration, contradiction between athletic basketball and professional basketball, inadequate basketball talents, and so on. (5) The route to develop Chinese professional basketball are carrying forward the materialization of Chinese Basketball Association, innovating and meliorating tournament rules, enhancing the cultivation of reserve professional basketball talents, strengthening legal guarantee and cultural construction.(6) There may be some difficulties during the further development of Chinese professional basketball, shortage of funds because of league expansion and improving the match level.
