Historical Review Of Building Sports Powerful Nation

In 2008, China successfully hosted the 29th Summer Olympic Games and made a historical breakthrough. It is the first time to China to surpass the United States in the gold medal count and won the first place of gold medal rank. In the closing ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games, the IOC President-Jacques Rogge described the 29th Olympic Games as "beyond compare". This is an affirmation to the success of sports industry in China. In the September 29, 2008, President Hu Jintao held development vision and concluded in the"Olympic Games and Paralympic Games honoring ceremony"that we should insist the goal of: enhance people's health, improve physical fitness and quality of life of the whole country. China should pay great attention to the role of sports playing in promoting the overall development, economic and social development, important role in achieving competitive sport and mass sport development to promote China become the sports power from sports country. Hu Jintao, the President of China, clearly pointed out future direction and objective goal of sports. Construction of "sports power" becomes one of important goal of China's sports once again. At early stage of reforming and opening in 1984 in China, Chinese People's Government had begun to put forward China into "sports power", at that time, there was no other country ever mentioned about"sports power"in the world, they only had "the top country in sport", which is translated as "competitive high country". In previous studies about building "sports power", because there is no definition on "sports power" in foreign countries that most articles are researching on definition and approaches of implementation of "sports power" in China.Very few of the researchers considering about the reason why China has such a strong desire to build "sports power", why "sports power" has never been mentioned by other countries. From this perspective, it could be easily seen the close relationship between construction of "sports power" and Chinese unique culture and history background. The author of this thesis mainly researches from the perspective of our history of culture to build "sports power" in China and puts the entry point to the historical, cultural, social, ethnic psychological aspects to explore, and hold an objective analysis of historical perspective on the strong desire of China to construct "sports power". Finally, the author researched out that "sports power" is a particular history and culture production in China. The term of "Sports power" is exclusive to China. On the new century, China proposed strategic objective of "from a sports country to a sports power" once again, and it requires us have a much more rational understanding to "sports power".
